Amwell A Doctor at Your Fingertips

I participated in the Amwell blog program as a member of One2One Network. I received compensation but all opinions are my own.

Life this summer has been crazy for us. From moving across country, having a new baby, traveling nonstop for business and to see family…it has been go go go with little to no stops for a breath. In the midst of all of this we lost health coverage for a couple of months as we waited for our new plan to kick in. Which has translated to medical bills piling high, because let me tell you – labor and delivery ain’t cheap. Neither are weekly well baby checks for a little guy that isn’t gaining weight as he should.

So when my little guy developed Thrush this last month while we were out of state the last thing I could afford was an emergency trip to Urgent Care for some thrush meds. I tried calling my doctor to get a prescription written over the phone – and that was a no go. So here were my options.

Option 1

Wait until the trip was over and see our family doctor. This would cost us $110 + Meds.

Option 2

Make a trip to urgent care and get the medications that afternoon. This is the option that we originally took. This cost us $1982 + Medication which was $172. And the trip went like this-

Dr: What can I do for you today?
Me: My son has thrush.
Dr: That is a diagnostic claim that you cannot make, what are his symptoms?
Me: White spots all over his mouth.
Dr: Let’s look…(opens sons mouth). Oh yes that is thrush here is your RX and Bill.

Well worth $2k…did I mention that the prescription had no refills?

Option 3

So when the time came that our bottle of meds ran out before we managed to get back home and while our son still had thrush we knew we needed a new option. This is where Amwell swooped in and saved our pocket book from another major hit. For $49 we were able to have a video conference with a doctor in our hotel room. We were presented with alternative treatments that were more affordable (that I had no clue about) and had our questions and concerns addressed. Using advice given to us from an Amwell Doctor we used gentian violet which cost us a whooping $3 and got rid of the thrush for good.

So in my experience- Yes we love and highly recommend Amwell!
