As your kids start to explore color, they will learn that there is more to color than the basic “blue”, “red”, “green” etc. After a while, they will begin to learn about different hues and shades of color and can begin to sort these different colors. This blue sensory bin is a fun and stress-free way for your kids to begin to explore the different aspects of color.

How to Play

The first thing we do is set out on a scavenger hunt around the house! This step really helps young children learn to identify and sort their colors in an everyday setting. They will see lots of colors as they run around the house, but are looking for blue specifically! I will usually set up the bin with the blue rice around this time too.

Once everything is gathered up, it’s time to dump it all and play! My kids have a blast using the fine motor tools while they play and it really helps to develop their motor skills. They love to feel all the different textures and shapes in their hands (not to mention the rice smells good too!)

While the kids play, I also like to ask them to explain different colors to me. As opposed to just saying “this is a light blue”, they tell me “this is blue like the sky”. They have so much fun naming off the different shades of color! This really helps to encourage language skills and creative thinking too.

Sensory bins such as these are a great way for kids to explore color in a playful way that isn’t so scary, stressful, and overwhelming. This sensory bin is a great one as they learn the different shades and hues of blue. My kids love sensory bins as they get to have fun, learn, and explore. I’m certain your kids will love the blue sensory bin activity as much as my kids do!
