Invitation to Invent: Can You Build a Catapult?

invitation to Invent: Can you Build a Catapult?

Hey, Diddle Diddle, the Cat and the Fiddle, the Cow jumped over the Moon….

This classic poem by Mother Goose has for years been a favorite of my kids. There are many days that Livia sings it to Roo as he swings back and forth and smiles. Or days when at lunch Meatballs’ dish runs away with his spoon. I have never figured out what it is about that silly rhyme, but my kids love it. So when my kids pulled out their Horizon Snack Grahams while packing their lunches and saw that they were shaped like cows, it was of no surprise to watch them start playing the Cow jumped over the Moon!

Water Beads are by far one of my kids favorite sensory materials. The ways that you can play with water beads are endless and they are cheap! We have tried everything from adding scents to our water beads to freezing them! Our lesson this week had a craft that required Marbles and Paint to do it. While we had the paint, we did not have any marbles lying around. But…we did have water beads! We had an absolute blast with this substitution – Painting with Water Beads was a major hit!

What I loved about this activity is that while it was very messy, it was super adaptable to meet the needs of both of my kids!

Insect Inspections Sensory Bin

Insect Inspections Sensory Bin

The other day we played around with a spaghetti bug bin that was an absolute blast! It was so much fun that my kids have been begging me to do another insect sensory bin with them. While they would have loved to do the spaghetti one again, I needed to find a use for all this pink crinkle paper shred (is that what you would call this?). And so the Insect Inspections Sensory Bin came to be. Gotta love playful excuses to recycle!

Plus it is always a fun challenge to find ways to incorporate the same toys into different sensory bins! We had so much fun with this it would be a close call in deciding which sensory bin we enjoyed more!!
