How to Grow Your Own Magic Crystal Tree!

Typically summer for us means a lot of day adventures like creek crawling and road trips. However with a new baby in the house the amount that we have been able to do this is nowhere near what my older kids are used to. And that’s ok, it’s perfectly fine. It just means that I have a bunch of bored kids on my hands. Easy science experiments such as this Magic Crystal Tree or the DIY Floam that we made the other day have been my sanity!

This simple science project uses items that you probably already have around your home, is an incredibly easy set up, and has almost immediate results. This is a great experiment for kids that are just starting to get curious about science!

Phone Number Bracelets {That Kids Can Make}!

The final school bells have rung, the heat is rising, and the days are getting longer. Summer is officially here! While summer is a chance to kick back and soak up some quality family time, it also is an incredibly busy season for many families. It’s amazing just how many activities can be packed into those three months!

When your family is on the go keeping up with everyone (and everything) can be a bit of a headache. To add some simplicity to our life our kids wear these easy DIY phone number bracelets and carry a Verizon cell whenever we are out and about!

One of the first things that we do every summer is design our phone number bracelets for the year. Ever since the year that we almost lost Livia in a crowd at Sea World, my kids have been required to wear these whenever we are out and about. Due to the wear and tear of these we replace them every summer.

Butterfly Life Cycle for Kids: There is something absolutely magical about Butterflies. Over the last month we have been observing the life cycle of caterpillars into Painted Lady Butterflies from a kit that Insect Lore sent us for review. We had way too much fun with this simple observation experiment. Here is what we experienced and discovered (plus free printables and lesson ideas)!

When our package arrived all the kids got super excited. This has been something they have been asking to try for awhile now. The entire experiment took us about three weeks.

Alphabet Car Wash Sensory Bin: Sensory Bins are a fabulous tool for learning. They are a quick and easy way to get children engaged while exploring a variety of different skills and concepts.

So…I keep on telling myself I am going to get this whole morning with four kiddos thing down, but…it’s a struggle. This morning to keep the kids entertained long enough to load the dishwasher, shower, and feed baby I decided to give a sensory bin a try. It was a major success (and honestly a pretty big mess too). We played with this activity for over an hour and it brought out so many fantastic conversations and challenges!

Recently we were sent two books (Casey & Friends A Year on the Farm and Big Tractors) and a friendly red tractor for review. Meatball is all about everything trucks, tractors, or trains right now so this was right up our alley!

After exploring the books (which we loved) we went browsing around Pinterest looking for some inspiration on how to tie the book A Year on the Farm into our daily activity.

What we found was this awesome Chocolate Play Dough Recipe from the Imagination Tree that with some modifications to fit our theme turned into hours of fun!
