The ever loved season of Halloween and pumpkins is creeping up on us. There’s nothing more fun than using those guts for a pumpkin guts slime recipe!
Our family are huge fans of Halloween – the costumes, the decorations, the crafts, the yummy food, and most importantly: the pumpkins. We love carving and painting those pumpkins into something fun and creative. We have a blast doing it every year!
While most people would throw away the guts or pick out the pumpkin seeds at best, we save it all. It’s great to use for this pumpkin guts slime recipe. This recipe helps kids to explore the pumpkin by dissecting it and playing in it. They can discover the different smells and textures that are inside of the pumpkin. Not to mention how cool it feels to squish it in your hands!
How to make your pumpkin guts slime recipe
Items needed:
- 1 pumpkin
- 2 regular size bottles of clear elmers glue
- 1-2 cups of liquid starch
Purex Sta-Flo Liquid Starch, 64 Ounce
Elmer’s School Glue, Clear, Washable, 5 OuncesSeed, Sprout, Pumpkin, Pie (Picture the Seasons)

Directions:
First things first, cut the top off the pumpkin and remove its guts. Place the into a large glass bowl. I tend to let the kids help me with this part. They love to pull everything out and see how the texture feels in their hands!
Dump 2 bottles of clear Elmer’s glue and 1 cup of liquid starch into the bowl and mix everything together for about 15 minutes. Depending on the moisture of your pumpkin guts you may need to add more liquid starch.
If it sticks to your hands after 15 minutes of mixing add in a tablespoon of liquid starch and mix, repeating this process until it no longer sticks to your hands. Then have fun and play!
Since this does use a food product, you will need to store it in the fridge.
This activity is great for some sensory play inspired by Halloween. The kids are able to literally dissect the pumpkin with play and have a blast exploring the different smells and textures. I know your kids are sure to have so much fun with this pumpkin guts slime recipe!
