Eric Carle is one of the many beloved authors in our home. Our shelves are full of his wonderfully illustrated stories and quite often I do attempt to tie our activities into one of his stories. There is just something about his books that invites readers to get lost between the pages in his colorful world.
We also absolutely adore e-books. While they will never replace a hard copy book in my mind, e-books are something that my children enjoy sharing together. I absolutely love peeking into the reading corner to find them all snuggled together learning and sharing. For the past week my children have been ecstatically exploring The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Friends a new app out by StoryToys.
This is the first StoryToy app that we have played around with, and I have to say I was amazed with their pop-up style. I LOVED pop-up books as a kid; however, pop-up books are still an invitation for my children to explore tearing so we don’t have many in the house. Being able to still explore the amazement of pop-up with them was pretty cool. The app itself is also really user friendly. It is available in several languages, and in the parent section of the app it has the options to turn off certain features.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Friends – Play & Explore features the very best characters of Eric Carle’s best selling books, including The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Mister Seahorse, The Very Quiet Cricket and many more! This app features 8 games and activities that are geared towards children ages 5 and younger.
Each game opens with a story that is filled with fun facts and challenges for your child. All of the games target certain skills and work on hand-eye coordination. Through the first section of the book your child will work on nutrition by sorting out what is a healthy choice for the caterpillar and what is junk food. Within this level you child will also be working on depth perception as they jump between the three rows choosing out what to feed the caterpillar. As they explore this world they just might stumble across other Eric Carle friends!
The Hungry Caterpillar doesn’t stop there! He will also work with your child on counting and sorting. Throughout each level your child has a chance to win special badges by completing extra tasks or scoring high by giving the right answers.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Friends app also works on encouraging children to explore life sciences, puzzles, mazes, memory skills, and so much more. This app has been a huge hit in our home and definitely gets a kid tested, momma approved label from us!
