Homemade Sazon

Sharing is caring!

I love Mexican food. We frequently have “Taco Night” around here. I love tacos because you can put out all the fixins and everyone can customize their own. I also love taco leftovers in a Taco Salad the next day! Sometimes I just want the salad and I don’t buy the taco shells kit that comes with the seasoning. This is what led me to create my own homemade sazon.

I love the flavor of Sazon packets, but not the preservatives and MSG. Sazon is Spanish for seasoning and that’s just what I needed so I experimented with different spices until I came up with my own blend that has just the tiniest bit of kick to it, but adds tons of flavor to my taco salad, and other Mexican dishes.

Taco Salad

My Taco Salad is made with seasoned ground beef over lettuce and tomatoes and topped with shredded cheese and chopped fresh cilantro. I love to serve it with some avocado slices too.

Rule of thumb – about a tablespoon of Sazon per pound of meat

Homemade Sazon is great for ground beef in tacos, but I also like to use it on my chicken when I make fajitas. The blend of spices is perfect for seasoning any meat or even shrimp!

Season chicken for fajitas too

I make chicken fajitas by cutting chicken, onion and peppers in strips and frying them in a large skillet. I use 1 tablespoon of canola oil and 1 tablespoon of my Homemade Sazon. It’s a super easy and quick dinner. It’s healthy and it tastes fantastic. My family likes to wrap it up in flour tortillas but the chicken and veggies alone taste great with a sprinkling of fresh chopped cilantro too.
