I absolutely love a good mineral foundation – but OMG are they expensive! Just recently when I ran to Ulta to restock on my favorites the price had gone up to over $100 for one small jar.
And y’all that’s a price I just cannot justify.
So I decided to head on home and learn How to Make a Homemade Mineral Foundation.
Items Needed to Make the Mineral Powder Foundation:
Kaolin Clay: is the base of your foundation. This clay is super gentle and light-weight. This is what will give your foundation its holding power.
Arrowroot: acts as the brightener for your mineral foundation.
Ginger: is what gives your mineral powder it’s shimmery glow. If you are sensitive to ginger use nutmeg instead.
Cinnamon: acts as a light reddish-brown bronzer for highlighting.
Cacao: provides depth with darker shades of brown.
Tumeric: is used to help balance out the tone of your mineral foundation.

Mineral Foundation Directions
- Combine arrowroot, cocoa powder, cayenne, cinnamon, and ginger in a bowl and mix.
- Once evenly mixed, place the ingredients into a spice grinder. Grind the mixture until smooth. Get this as smooth as you possibly can – a course mixture will not stick well to your face.
- Pour your mineral foundation powder into an airtight glass container.
Note: Want to add in essential oils? You definitely can! Our favorites to use with these recipes (1-2 drops) are tea tree, frankincense, and cedarwood.
This recipe will keep for about 3 months in an airtight container if stored in a non-humid area.
