Paper Plate Eyeball Craft

Nothing says “Halloween is here” quite like a giant eyeball silently staring at everyone who walks through your front door. This paper plate eyeball craft is equal parts spooky and ridiculous, and that’s exactly why I love it. It’s messy in the best way, takes basically no time, and looks like your house has been taken over by friendly (but slightly unhinged) monsters.

Also, bonus points: kids can totally do this on their own. Which means maybe… just maybe… you’ll actually finish your coffee while it’s still warm.

What You’ll Need to Make This Spooky Eyeball Craft

Before we dive in and start crafting like Halloween-loving gremlins, let’s get those supplies lined up. You don’t need anything fancy here – promise. Half of this stuff is probably already sitting in your craft bin, the junk drawer, or, you know, wherever your kids last “borrowed” the scissors.

  • Paper plate — I just use the cheap white ones. Nothing fancy. In fact, the flimsier the better because it gives that crinkly, “this eyeball has seen things” vibe.
  • Green, black, and white construction paper — Any paper works, but if you’ve got heavyweight paper? Chef’s kiss. It makes the iris pop like it’s staring straight into your soul.
  • Green marker — The slimier the green, the better. Go for “radioactive ooze” energy.
  • Preschool scissors — These kid-safe scissors make it easy for little hands to snip and clip their way to spooky perfection.
  • Glue sticks — Nothing fancy, just a bulk pack of glue sticks because, let’s be honest… they disappear faster than socks in the dryer.

How to Make a Paper Plate Eyeball Craft

Here’s where things get gloriously weird. Grab your paper plate and let’s turn it into a giant, slightly ridiculous, delightfully spooky eyeball. Don’t worry, this craft is way easier than it looks, and if the veins get a little wild, it honestly just makes it better.

Step 1: Gather your supplies

This is your “mad scientist moment.” Lay everything out so it looks like you’re about to conduct some highly classified Halloween business. Bonus points if you cackle while you do it.

Step 2: Vein it up

Grab that green marker and start drawing squiggly veins around the edges of the plate. The messier, the better. Think “I had too much coffee and now I’m drawing like my life depends on it.” Perfect veins don’t exist here. Chaos is the goal.

Step 3: Cut out your eyeball pieces

Now grab your construction paper and snip out one big green circle for the iris, one medium black circle for the pupil, and two teeny white circles for the shine. If you’ve got the eyeball template in the printable packet, this part’s a breeze, just trace and cut.

But honestly? Freehand totally works too. Crooked circles? Weird ovals? It all just adds to the charm. Every eyeball has a little personality (especially the lopsided ones).

Step 4: Build the iris

Glue the black circle on top of the green one and add those white dots for highlights. This is the moment your little eyeball starts looking alive. (Cue spooky background music.)

Step 5: Glue it down

Smack that eye right in the middle of your plate and glue it down like it’s judging your life choices…(because it absolutely is.)

Step 6: Admire your masterpiece

Step back and look at what you’ve created. It’s ridiculous. It’s spooky. It’s staring at you. And honestly? It’s perfect.
