Rainbow Scented Rice

This Rainbow Rice doesn't use vinegar or rubbing alcohol -- it smells AMAZING!

My kids adore playing with rice sensory bins. It is by far one of their favorite quiet time activities. I love how simple it is…but I cannot stand the smell of rubbing alcohol or vinegar. The harshness of both give me a headache. I could not even imagine running my hands through it to play. So, a rainbow rice made without vinegar or rubbing alcohol was a must!

We have tried a couple different solutions to be able to dye rice without either vinegar or rubbing alcohol. So far we have made glow in the dark sensory rice and have dyed rice using essential oils. Red Sensory Bin

Activities such as this red sensory bin are a great way to start introducing colors in a playful stress-free manner.

While color seems like a super simple to us, for a young child color is a pretty complicated concept. For a minute put yourself in their shoes. They are just starting to learn terms of the items in their ever day lives such as shoes. Now the game is being upped because shoes are not just shoes. There are red shoes, and blue shoes, and green shoes. And well colors come in multiple different shades. So those dark blue shoes and those light blue shoes are both exactly the same general color even though they don’t look the same. Confusing stuff people.

Activities such as this red sensory bin are a great way to start introducing colors in a playful stress-free manner.

So, as you start learning colors with your child have patience and make it fun. Activities such as this red sensory bin are a great way to start introducing colors in a playful stress-free manner.

Frog Egg Slime! A Slippery Squishy Sensory Bin

Frog Egg Slime! A Squishy Slipper Sensory Bin

Earlier this summer we were able to visit this amazing natural playground in Rochester, MN. If ya’ll ever go through there make sure to stop and visit (it is called Oxbow). While we were there we got to see Frogs and Toads up close and it was super cool. This experience spurred on a fascination with frogs for my kids. Ya’ll are never going to believe what this Frog Egg Sensory Bin is made out of, but it was perfect for setting up some pretend play while learning about the anatomy of Frog Eggs.
