Conversation Heart Watercolor Paints

Who knew this science experiment would lead us to discovering How to Make Conversation Heart Watercolor Paints?

Now that Valentine’s day is over my house is overflowing with candy from the kids. In efforts to avoid the impending candy rush that is bound to happen as soon as my kids figure out where I have hidden the candy, we have started doing various science experiments and projects using our candy. Who said you had to eat it anyways?! These Conversation Heart Watercolors have created a fantastic paint and kept my kids occupied and creating for quite some time!

Who knew this science experiment would lead us to discovering How to Make Conversation Heart Watercolor Paints?

This project originally started out as a science experiment that we did last year. When we revisited Dissolving Candy Hearts my kids ended up taking the experiment in a different direction once their hearts had fully “melted”. Knowing that my kids wanted to make a watercolor paint with their hearts, we did change up some of it ahead of time. Make sure to visit our science experiment on Melting Hearts to expand on this activity with!

The Secret to a Vibrant and Soft Homemade Play Dough

The Secret to Vibrant and Soft Play Dough

It’s no secret that we love play dough around here. It seems like daily I am having to whip up another batch. While learning how to make play dough I ran into a couple different frustrations like reds that looked more like pinks and dyeing processes that left my hands stained and my kitchen a mess.

The Secret to Vibrant and Soft Play Dough

For the longest time I used and loved our easy play dough recipe. It is a fail proof way to make an amazing play dough that lasts. We even discovered how to turn the easy play dough recipe into a glow in the dark play dough recipe…But I have to be completely honest and say that I really wanted to find a method that was even easier than that.

How to Make Perfect Fake Snow

Every morning it seems like I have woken up to more snow appearing outside. While I personally am not a fan of snow, my little guy is absolutely in love with it. It is magical, fascinating, and fun. If he had his way he would spend his entire day bundled up rolling around in the backyard. With also having a little man under 1 year old though letting my preschooler spend that sort of time outside is difficult. Roo (under 1) cannot spend the sort of time outside that Meatball (3) would like to, so we found a way to bring (fake) snow inside.

This DIY Snow Recipe is a super simple way to make snow that will not melt. It is also a fun science experiment in absorbency!

Once we made this snow Meatball played with it for hours in the kitchen. He built snowmen, castles, and pulled out his trucks to help with the heavy work. When Meatball was younger we had made a different version of homemade snow so it was a lot of fun to see the differences between the two.

While I love this time of year, the weather changing and snowfall always comes with miserable migraines for me. When your knocked down from a migraine taking care of littles is not the easiest thing to do. This taste safe peppermint cloud dough is one of my favorite go-to sensory play bins on those days that a headache has me down. Not only is it easy to throw together and clean up, but it also has a really refreshing pick me up scent.

Rainbow Scented Rice

This Rainbow Rice doesn't use vinegar or rubbing alcohol -- it smells AMAZING!

My kids adore playing with rice sensory bins. It is by far one of their favorite quiet time activities. I love how simple it is…but I cannot stand the smell of rubbing alcohol or vinegar. The harshness of both give me a headache. I could not even imagine running my hands through it to play. So, a rainbow rice made without vinegar or rubbing alcohol was a must!

This Rainbow Rice doesn't use vinegar or rubbing alcohol -- it smells AMAZING!

We have tried a couple different solutions to be able to dye rice without either vinegar or rubbing alcohol. So far we have made glow in the dark sensory rice and have dyed rice using essential oils. This sensory rice though has by far been a favorite. Kids love the vibrant colors and the playful scents! And making it is ridiculously easy!
