The Very Hungry Caterpillar DIY Puzzle: Bring this classic Eric Carle book to life with this delightful DIY puzzle. This is one busy bag your kids will want to play with often!
One of the great things about this busy bag puzzle is that it can easily be recreated to go with any book your child loves, is a fun upcycle, and it can be tailored to the complexity that your child needs! Adventures in a Box created one to go with Good Night, Good Night Construction Site that we just adore!
Since we are just starting to really explore puzzles with Meatball I kept our caterpillar puzzle on the simple end. I am in love with how it turned out!
Items Needed for Your DIY Puzzle:
- Book Sleeve Cover
- Cereal Box (or other type of thin cardboard)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Sharpie
How to Make The Very Hungry Caterpillar DIY Puzzle:
Creating this puzzle is incredibly easy and will only take about 5-10 minutes of your time. To begin find a book sleeve and cut out the shape that you want to use. I really am not a fan of book sleeves so I find this super satisfying to be able to find a way to use them!
Once cut out glue your book character to a thin piece of cardboard such as a cereal box. You may need to cut your image in order to make it fit.
You can reverse that so that you are gluing your book sleeve onto the cardboard and then cutting both together, but I prefer to do it this way just in case I struggle with the cutting the cardboard (so I don’t tear the image).
Once glued on, design your puzzle shapes and cut everything out.
Then play! Easy peasy!!
Meatball had an absolute blast mixing all of the pieces up and counting them as he put them back together.
Such simple fun!!
