The season of fall is traditionally known as the season of pumpkin. Some may say this is deserving of a huge eyeroll, but not us! We love when pumpkin is in season. We even try and incorporate it into our everyday activities, including sensory play.

My kids absolutely love moon sand, which gave me the incentive to make this taste safe pumpkin moon sand for them! And let me tell you, they love it. It smells good, it’s fun to play in, and they can eat it if they want!

How To Make Your Taste Safe Pumpkin Moon Sand

Items needed:

  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup pumpkin puree

Directions:

First things first, prepare your sensory moon sand! Mix all ingredients together! Sometimes it can result in being a little sticky. When this happens, I like to add in ½ cup of flour and mix into the mixture until it is no longer sticky, but still moldable.

Once you have your desired consistency, it’s time to play! Moon sand is great for sensory play since it’s such a cool texture for the kids to play in. When we play with moon sand, my kids love to use different toys, cookie cutters, and other items they find around the house while they play. It’s such fun to see their creative minds at play! They also like to try and mold the sand into different shapes and characters.
