Fall is the perfect season for exploring how nature changes. There is a bounty of science and learning behind every change. I love to get the boys outside to observe all of the changes happening around us. Leaves in many beautiful colors, squirrels scurrying with nuts, buckeyes falling and leaving their shell. There is so much to explore!

Directions:
1. Print and laminate free printable.

2. My little guys are 1 and 3 so this printable was perfect. You can write your findings on it or place the actual object on it. We laid it on a picnic table and set to exploring. First, we investigated leaves. We set about to find different shapes and colors. We brought our examples back to the table and placed it on the free printable in the leaf category.

3. We did the same for each category. Of course, we took our time to meander, toss leaves in the air, listen to the birds, and smell, feel and describe each new discovery.

We had a wonderful day exploring at Harrison Lake State Park. It was an unusually warm November day in Ohio. The more we explore nature, the more the boys notice the splendor around us. David will comment on the beauty of the warm sun or the exquisite red leaves of a vibrant sugar maple. Willie will sit and quietly contemplate an interesting yellow oak leaf with holes chewed by bugs. It’s beautiful –authentic learning as it should be.
